A strange package appeared at my office yesterday. I was not expecting anything, so I was a little nervous. I slowly opened it up and pulled out the packaging to be greeted with two well wrapped odd objects and a letter. I pulled the letter out and read it, and it was a nice note from the team at The Behemoth. If you remember waaaay back to February 26th, when I interviewed John Baez from the The Behemoth he was telling me about their latest game Alien Hominid HD. During the interview, John was telling me that they were going to offer real tangible trophies for gamertags at the top of the AH HD leaderboards each week. Since I work at Xbox and not eligible to get one, they made a special one for me complete with a mark of authenticity in the base.

Except for a few franchise titles, the June - August time frame is normally a quiet time for game releases as developers are busy preparing for the big Holiday rush. Some people around the office and I were discussing this, and now that the Halo 3 beta is over, we were looking at the release calendar and this season feels a little more crowded then years past. In addition to the Xbox Live Arcade titles that appear on a (usually) weekly basis…there are more games than I expected being released over the next few months. If you are an Xbox 360 owner, you can look forward to The Darkness, Overlord, Vampire Rain (O"lord and VR have free demos you can grab on Xbox LIVE), NASCAR 08, Stranglehold and BioShock to name a few. For the kids we’ve got Ratatouille and the Transformers. What titles are you looking forward to this busy Summer (or Winter depending on where you are)?

Now that the Halo 3 beta has ended, we’ve tabulated some interesting data: There were 820,000 unique participants with more than 12 million hours of online H3 gameplay in its short test period, equivalent to more than 1,400 years of continuous play by one person. Also, Halo 3 was responsible for over 350 terabytes of data downloaded from LIVE. (I can’t wait until e gets that bill)

Also, the Halo merchandising juggernaut has officially kicked off, with a Halo 3 Controller, Wireless headset and comics and all set to join the Halo 3 Zune.

It has just been announced that Gears of War will be getting a title update tomorrow, June 14th after 0200 GMT. Inside the Title Update, you’ll find eight new Achievements for the "Annex" gametype and the "Hidden Fronts" Multiplayer Map Pack on Xbox LIVE.

In addition to adding new Achievements, worth a total of 250 points, Epic has improved the Roadie Run controls so players have greater control of their movement. The title update will also help squash multiplayer exploits and provide general housekeeping.

The "Annex" gametype is now available for free and the "Hidden Fronts" Multiplayer Map Pack is available on Xbox LIVE Marketplace for 800 Microsoft Points.
All four multiplayer maps will be available for free after Sept. 3, 2007.
