Overview
This solution accelerator includes a new set of Microsoft System Center Operations Manager 2007 (Ops Manager), Management Packs for Windows SharePoint Services 3.0, and for Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007.
For those who are not familiar with Ops Manager 2007, this product is designed to “provide end-to-end service management that is easy to customize and extend to help improve service levels across your IT environment” (Ops Manager 07 Product Information). These Packs will enable Ops Manager 2007 users to monitor WSS and MOSS deployments, generate reports, and resolve incidents from a centralized management location in their IT environments.
This new version of the Management Packs is designed to replace the existing Ops Manager 2007 Management Packs for WSS/MOSS.
What do we bring in that’s new to these WSS/MOSS Management Packs?
Common to both new packs:
· Both the packs has no dependency on external management Pack “MOM.backward.compatibility.library.MP”
· All the alerts are restructured in a more efficient manner such that they display the alert message with, Event ID, Event Source, Event Description and the host machine name (from which agent each particular alert message was thrown)
· Tasks are added for IIS Related Operations.
· Bug fixes related to management packs in existing KB articles have been addressed.
· KB articles are implemented in SCOM based native code i.e. : MAML- Microsoft Assistance Markup Language.
· Existing Packs Functionality is retained as such, and improved by adding well structured alerts, except 2 monitors in each Packs.
In the new WSS Pack:
· WSS search service is monitored.
· Unknown SQL errors are handled.
· Additional Performance collection rules are added for collecting PERF Data for Processor, Process and Disk.
In the new MOSS Pack:
· Discovery for Single sign On server is added.
· Additional Performance collection rules are added for collecting PERF Data for memory, system, Processor, etc...

The SharePoint Manageability Toolkit includes the following:
· Microsoft Office SharePoint Server Management Pack for Operations Manager 2007
· Microsoft Office SharePoint Server Management Pack Guide
· Windows SharePoint Services Management Pack for Operations Manager 2007
· Windows SharePoint Services Management Pack Guide
These are packaged in two separate MSI files for WSS or MOSS as appropriate.
