name and type of e.g. methods, properties or parameters.
</summary>

20070624_GhostDocQuick Facts

  • Support for VB.Net added
  • Full support for events, including inherited documentation and user-defined custom rules.
  • Download on the GhostDoc Website
  • Users of earlier versions: Please read the ReadMe on upgrading!

About this Release

For Visual Basic developers, version 2.1 is what 2.0 should have been: VB.Net support has been added again. Even though I got help (huge thanks to Daniel Root for the translation of the demo project), I spent more time than I wanted on testing, debugging and deployment – in the end it’s a huge number of small things that add up.

C# developers who have to implement many interfaces with events (like I do) will enjoy the full support for events, as it includes a text generation rule for using inherited documentation (VB.Net developers benefit from this of course, too).

What’s New in GhostDoc 2.1.0:

  • Added: Support for Visual Basic .NET has been added again (was disabled in version 2.0.0), but still is regarded as "experimental". The feature is turned off by default and you have to turn it on in the configuration dialog. Please see the docs for more information.
  • Added: The setup for the demo project now contains a VB.Net version.
  • Added: Full rule support for events (configurable default documentation, inherited documentation e.g. for interface implementations, and used-defined custom rules)
  • Added: New macro $(DeclaringTypeKind) that specifies the kind of type a member is defined in (i.e. class, struct or interface).
  • Changed: All occurrences of "class" in the default templates have been replaced by $(DeclaringTypeKind).
  • Changed: As the next version of Visual Studio (codename "Orcas" ) will be named Visual Studio 2008, all texts have been updated accordingly.
  • Fixed: Documentation of constructors of structs referring to the initialization of a "class" instance.
  • Fixed: Problems with parameter names starting with an "@" (e.g. "@class").
6/24/2007 Cool site: Sound Search

This has nothing to do with anything, but it"s cool: You can search sound on the net and get back results with a visual preview of the wav file

6/24/2007 Agile Israel Conference 2007 - Call For Speakers

This is a public call for speakers for the first Agile Conference in Israel - Agile Israel 2007.

We don"t have a site yet, but the current date for the conference is (mark your calendars): December 16 2007.

The conference will be 2 days long with a pre-conference track and we"re considering adding a post-conference track as well.

We (as in Myself and Sela, who is helping to organize and sponsor this) are bringing in several speakers from abroad as well as well known Agile folks from Israel. However, I"m looking for speakers for two types of sessions:

1) Breakout sessions - 75 minute sessions

2) Whiteboard sessions (also called Chalk & Talk) - No slides, just you and the audience

If you think you can contribute to such a conference and you"d like to talk about anything that"s somehow related to Agile development (methodologies, techniques etc..) ping me by email to Roy@Osherove.com

Also, expect news about the Agile Israel user group, which should be coming soon!

6/24/2007 Regionerate - Free Code Layout Addin for VS.NET

Omer Rauchwerger is a reader of this blog. A while ago he sent me an email about a new addin for visual studio he created called Regionerate which was in private beta at the time. Unfortunately it ended up in my spam box and I couldn"t find it until today.

Now Regionerate is public (and open source) and seems like a cool addin to have in your tool box if you"re a neat freak who likes their code to look exactly like they want it too. Here"s the tool site, and here"s the tool"s blog. It even has a #Develop plugin, cool!

6/24/2007 Mike Cohn is blogging

Or maybe I"m just slow on the uptake? I got word via Mountain Goat Software, Mike"s company, that his blog Succeeding with Agile is now available. However there are posts there dating back to January. In any case, whether it"s new or not, it"s a blogger to read. Mike has always been there for me with little tidbits of extra info and sending me resources when I was swimming in Agile questions. He"s an excellent speaker and I look foward to his blog entries, even if they"re only going to be once a month (hey, he"s a busy guy). Check it out and consider adding him to your blog roll as he"s on of the key guys in Agile software today.

6/23/2007 What is your favorite color of grass?

I"m doing a rare geek survey!  I was out weed-beating my weeds (aka tall grass) and was wondering.  What is your favorite color of grass?  I know some people actually water their grass to make it green and grow.  That in my book creates more work and time away from geeking!  I wonder if IT Pro-types like brown grass and developers like ultra green.  PS: I guess folks who live in desert climates their favorite color is many shades of rock!

My vote is 3 shades of brown is my favorite color.

What is yours??

Have a good weekend.

Steve

6/23/2007 Looking for open source contributors to my projects

I"ve been thinking a lot about doing some active open source development, mainly sharing and getting contributions on my various code and tools from people in the community, and providing them as full open sourced pieces of code.

So I went out and started looking for subversion hosting solutions. this post has a lot of nice options. In finally went with hosting it all on Assembla, which freely gives out both subversion and trac support (source control and bug management) with practically no limit on disk space.

I"ve set up a page detailing all my open-source ventures, and I"m looking for people to contribute and help make these projects better!

Open Source Projects I am Involved in (red ones are good candidates to get involved in):

(Let me know if you"re interested in contributing to one of these projects by email to Roy at osherove.com

6/23/2007 Debugging Microsoft Ajax with Firefox, one small recurrent issue
I am debugging regularly my Ajax code with Firefox and Firebug and I have constantly Firebug stopping on the same portion of ajax client script. OK I can still click continue but it"s kind of boring and annoying thing to do so all the time. Anyone knows about this? This is the method Firebug don"t like: function Sys$CultureInfo$_getAbbrMonthIndex(value) { if (!this._upperAbbrMonths) { this._upperAbbrMonths = this._toUpperArray(this.dateTimeFormat.AbbreviatedMonthNames); }...(read more)
6/22/2007 My brother Mathieu developed one of the first commercial applications in Australia using Silverlight

As stated in the blog of Frank Arrigo (responsible for all Technical Communities in Australia),

One of the things we will be showing at ReMIX is a preview of Discovery Channel Asia"s "Never Miss TV" developed by local digital agency @www. It"s one of the first commercial applications developed in Australia using Silverlight.

You may have read about this in a recent B & T Article (which also featured me)

image

I had a sneak preview of the site this week and it looked cool. Can"t wait to see the rest of it at ReMIX

The digital agency @www referenced by Frank is the company in which my brother Mathieu is working.

A couple of weeks ago he made a demonstration of Silvelright in @www and now he has implemented a first commercial application using it that will be demonstrated during ReMIX 2007 in Australia and Asia.

I have seen the last bits of it today, and it rocks!!!

Congrats brother, you are really GOOD.
